Library
How long does it take to get a library card?
Our librarian will be able to supply you with a new library card the same day you apply. Please bring a recent utility bill or a photo id (driver's license) for proof of physical residence.
Are electronic books available?
Yes, we subscribe to "OverDrive" through the Nebraska Library Commission, or go to

City Hall is open Monday, Wednesday, & Friday from 9:00 AM to 4:00 PM. Tuesday and Thursday from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM.

What number do I call for the police?
The City of Alma works with the Harlan County Sheriff's Department for our police protection. The Sheriff's Department can be reached at 308-928-2147 for non-emergency items. In an EMERGENCY call 911.

May I burn trash and leaves inside the city limits?
No, not at the current time due to dry conditions in our county. Please contact city hall if you have any questions.
Application Process
I am interested in applying for a job with the City of Alma, Nebraska, what do I do?
You will need to fill out an application . Please ensure you meet the qualifications for the position you wish to be considered for. If you would like to include a resume, simply attach it to the completed application. You may mail or drop off the application at City Hall. Interviews will be scheduled accordingly.
Does the City of Alma, Nebraska hire part time employees?
Yes, we do hire part time employees. These types of jobs are: summer help for mowing and Manager, assistant managers, and lifeguards at the swimming pool. Availability of these positions will be posted (click here) when available.
Zoning/Building Permits & Inspections
What is the process for getting a zoning/building permit?
Take a moment to read all required information provided. Then print and fill out the zoning/building permit application form and return to City Hall. Should you have any additional questions, please feel free to give us a call or send us an email. We will be happy to help you.

How much does it cost to swim?
Daily pass: $3.00
Single season pass: $50.00
Family season pass: $80.00
Is there Adult lap swimming available?
Lap swimming can be done during the Adult Exercise time of 12:00 to 1:00 p.m.
Is there an Adult exercise time?
Yes - Adult Exercise time is Monday thru Friday 12:00 -1:00 p.m.
Alma Municipal Golf Course
What is the Par for the golf course?
9 hole par 36.
Do I need a soft spike shoes?
Yes. It is a soft spike only golf course.
Can I rent the Club House for an event?
Yes. Contact Kristi Heft, Event Coordinator, at (308) 991-6213.
Fee is: $200 for members and $300 for non-members.
If closed to the public: $350 members and $450 for non-members.
Is there Golf Cart Storage available at the Golf Course?
Electric and/or gas golf cart storeage is available in our storage sheds. Rent is: $175 yr for electric and $150 yr for gas. Rent is due March 1st and is payable to the Alma Municipal Golf Course. You may pay at the Golf Course bar, at the Golf Course greens fee box, the City of Alma Office located at 614 Main Street, or mail to Alma Municipal Golf Course at PO Box 468, Alma, NE. 68920
Do you allow "Two-Ball" Golf?
Yes we do. It is covered by one membership or one greens fee ticket.
Sanitation / Solid Waste Department
When are the garbage collection days for my street?
Please refer to Sanitation Brochure under "Relevant Documents" to find schedules and many other answers to questions you may have. Remember, observed holidays will alter the normal routine.
I see different sizes of dumpsters around town. Why?
Many businesses in the Alma city limits use large dumpsters, called 450 gal containers, which are over 4 times bigger than a normal residential toter. At present there are 51 of the large dumpsters inside the city limits.
What are the rates for Sanitation pickup?
